Nigrosin also known as Acid Black 2 is employed as a common biological stain for tissues and cells. It is a black shining particle that is soluble in water, alcohol, and blue alcohol. Nigrosin is blue in dense sulphuric acid and purple in precipitate after dilution. Then blue, purple in water and dark purple precipitate with NaOH.
